and I am 1 FO closer to being finished my Christmas knitting.

Pattern: the Moose Hat from Bea Ellis Knitwear (for my dad)

Yarn: Heilo in 5563 & 6031

Needles: Knit Picks Options US 3 & 5

Modifications: I think the only thing that I changed was to work the hat magic loop instead of on a small circ. Found it alot easier to control my tension with the colorwork using magic loop.

I've also been pretty busy finishing up some socks that have been laying around the house for a while. The ones on the left are for Angelina using leftover Lorna's Laces from from my MSS3 socks. The ones on the right are for my mom using Plymouth Sockotta in Lilac Bold Stripe, these were also my intro into Magic Loop. Love it!

Here is a glimpse at the next item on my Christmas knitting list:

A Montego Bay Scarf for my SIL using Sea Silk. This is the silkiest yarn that I have ever touched, because of this the knitting isn't going as quickly as I would like. I seem to be spending more time petting it then I do knitting with it, thank goodness this is a mindless knit.

And to show off what Angelina spent the afternoon today learning:

Some finger knitting...After about 5 minutes of showing her how to wrap the yarn around her fingers, she informed me that she was a big girl and she could do this all by herself. And she did...so far she has about 24" of a belt done, and is already to start knitting clothes for the cat;)

Holy Magic Loop, Batman

So I have tried something new this weekend, and I am really liking it thus far. Magic Loop...what's not to like, no ladders, easy to try on, and best of all, no SSS. The only thing that I'm not liking right now is how slow it goes, so I just keep reminding myself that once I'm done, I'm done, no second sock to cast on for.

An "N" for November. I have finished my November socks for SAM4, although I almost feel like I cheated, just plain toe-up St St. Yay for quick and easy socks. I really do love these socks though, the yarn is from heaven( actually it's Plucky Knitter, but close enough) it's so soft and squishy and the colors are awesome.

Monkey Socks and Yarn Porn

I have been a bad blogger lately, but with good excuse. My in-laws are visiting this week for DH's graduation, so I have been very busy getting ready for the visit and now entertaining. We have been having a great time seeing all the sites and hanging out, it's amazing how much of the area we get to see when we have company.

My MSS3 package arrived yesterday. Thank you so much Ester for the great package! Included in my package was a very cute hugging monkey and blanket set (which Angelina claimed immediately), a couple of cute scarfs, a pair of slippers, Hersey's cookies, sunglasses, a Chibi needle set, Lang JaWoll, Meilenweit Mega Boots Stretch, Twisted Flower Pattern...and of course my socks. They are awesome. (excuse the cat in the pic, she wants to be famous)

A pic of my most recent WIP...I have joined the bandwagon and started a Chevron Scarf. I am really liking the pattern and the yarn, and it's knitting up pretty quick which is always good.

Hogwarts Package

Look what I got in the mail yesterday...my Hogwarts Sock Swap Package, from Emma Crookshanks. She sent me all sorts of cool stuff, including my super soft Ravenclaw socks. Included in the package were some beautiful stitch markers, 2 balls of Patons Pebbles in Ravenclaw-ish colors, Charmed Knits books(Yeah!), very cool Harmony DPNs, and last but not least something for my House Elf...

A cute little kitten toy. Anneliese has either been guarding or attacking this toy since being unwrapped. Thank you so much Emma for a perfect package.

Well I have some news(which will help explain my spotty blogging). DH finally got his orders for the last stage of his training. Yeah! We are very excited to be almost finished all of the training part of his job, the only sucky part is that we'll be separated for 4 months while he finishes this last part. On the plus side we are 4 months closer to be stationed somewhere for longer then 1 year at a time. So now that we have the orders we can start getting everything all set for a very big move from here(California) back to Georgia. So I've been busy filling out forms, going to briefings, collecting files and downsizing the house. Busy, busy, busy. I was very excited on Monday when we went to Transportation and found out that the Army would have a professional moving company come in and pack everything up and put it in storage for us. That takes alot off my shoulders. Well I'm off to make phone calls and to work some more on the Monkey socks.(they are sooo close to being finished)

SP Package

I was so excited when I opened the mailbox this afternoon, and saw a package with my name on it. My first SP package was here...look at the goodies that my pal sent me.
Inside was a cute little magnetic notepad, a couple of really nice smelling candles, a package of note cards, Reese Peanut Butter Cups(Angelina has already swiped a few a those) and 2 skeins of Plymouth Alpaca in a really pretty petal. This yarn is very soft and squishy, so nice.

I think I must have bought magic needles...I cast on my pals first monkey sock Wednesday and cast off yesterday. I have never knitted a sock that fast, so it must be the needles. I love my new Knit Picks needles, the points are very pointed and the 6" length makes them very easy to work with, but best of all I didn't break a single needle. Yeah! Well I am off to cast on the second monkey, hopefully I can get this one finished just as quickly.

F**k the Mittens

Do you sense my frustration? I finished the first Anemoi Mitten and it looks awesome. The problem is still getting them on, it's possible, just not easy(really NOT easy). So these are going away in the to be scraped pile while I try and figure out what to do for this persons Christmas present. I have also been working on my Cabletini socks. I am so in love with everything about these, the yarn, the needles(my Sox Stix), and most of all the pattern. The mini cables are awesome and easy to memorize, and I finally found a toe-up pattern that has the reinforced heel that I love so much.

We also went pumpkin picking this weekend, which was a fun experience. The pumpkin farm had corn mazes, bouncy houses and goat feeding...Angelina had a blast with all the activities. We ended up with 5 large pumpkins, 3 small and 2 mini. We spent most of Sunday carving 3 of the pumpkins into a scary face, a cat, and some bats. We are now all set for Halloween, except for the candy, but that can be easily obtained.

P.S. My new Knit Picks Sock needles came in tonight, they are really nice. I finally broke down and bought metal needles since every time I pick up a pair of socks to knit I break at least one needle. So the money that I was spending (plus the breaks easily factor)made me think that maybe bamboo wasn't really for me.

Here are my socks, they are so pretty and they fit very nicely. Lynn used Cookie A's Hedera pattern and Lang yarn. I love them.She also sent some chocolate, a row counter (I have been wanting one of these), body lotion in my favorite scent...Magnolia Blossom, some coupons for Bath and Body Works, a skein of Louet Gems Sport in a sage color, and an awesome tape measure that looks like a ~~hat~~ cake.This has been a really great swap. Finally Motivation Strikes

Thanks goodness for new needles. Because I just couldn't wait to use my new Sox Stix, I cast the Anemoi Mittens once again. And this time they worked! I figured out that the problem wasn't the needle size, but that I was pulling the CC way to tight across the back. Because all of the colorwork was so tight in the back, it was pulling the ribbing in and not letting it stretch out at all. So now I'm making a conscious effort to keep all the colorwork very loose, and it's working beautifully. Thank you to all of those that left me suggestions or encouragement with the Anemoi Mittens, I really appreciate the feedback.The monkeys are driving me crazy. I finished blocking the Monkey sock for my pal, it is definitely way too small. So after another trip to my LYS I pick up some ToFutsies in 10 Foot Tall and started again. I upped my needle size to a US2 and it seems to be helping quite a bit. The real test though is when I get down to the heel and gusset, that's were the sizing problem seems to happen. My fingers are crossed though. I also picked up these while at the LYS.

Look what I got in the mail today...My very first set of Sox Stix in the ebony finish.

My sister must really love me. I can't wait to cast on a new pair of socks to try out my new needles. I already have a pattern in mind (Cabletini), I just need to pick up some yarn for it. Yeah for new needles.

I finished my first Monkey sock today, but I'm not sure if it's going to fit. At the moment its alittle hard to get it past the heel, possible...but not easy. So it's blocking at the moment, to see if that helps at all. If not, then I guess these will be for me and I'll go back to the drawing board for my MSS3.

Socks, socks and more socks

Not much to show this week. I've been trying to finish up(start) all of my sock swap projects that are on the go right now. So far I'm pushing along pretty good, and even though I'm finishing up several pairs of socks I feel like my WIPs are feeling neglected. Not too much longer, then I can focus on Christmas WIPs again. I just realized the other day that Christmas is just like 3 months away, time is seriously flying.

I finished my Hogwarts Sock Swap socks this week, but no pics until I get them sent off and Emma gets her package next week. I also cast on my Monkey Swap Socks, these are flying along. This is my first time knitting this pattern, and so far the socks are going pretty good. I just made it to the first heel flap and am hoping that I can finish up the first sock either tonight or tomorrow. This is also my first time using Lorna's Laces and I am so in love.

I'm off to clean a hamster cage, my house and do some more sock knitting. Happy Knitting

I finished my Baudelaire socks last night. I think they turned out great...the measurements are right on, the pattern shows up great, and the color of the yarn works really well with the pattern. All in all a successful knit.

We went apple and strawberry picking this weekend, what a fun family outing that was. We picked 22lbs of apples and 2lbs of strawberries. The strawberries were out of this world, I have never tasted anything as naturally sweet as those. And so far the apples have turned into 2 apple pies and I still have plenty of apples for applesauce.

I also got to stop by Micheals while we were out on Saturday and picked up this. It's a Knitpickers small project bag. I had been thinking about making myself one for my socks, but I couldn't beat the price and I had a coupon.(Can you guess what socks I'm work on now)

That's about it for this past week. I've been trying to be good and get all my sock swap socks all knitted up so that I can start sending out projects. So far I'm doing pretty good, and hopefully by the end of this week I'll have the mate to the above sock finished.

I stopped by the craft store this afternoon and picked up some cotton to make these. I saw the pattern on Ravelry and thought that they were so cute. So I cast on ( is that what you call it with crochet?) the first one (pink-for Angelina) and finished a couple hours later, and decided that I needed mine too(purple-for me). So a couple FO's in an evening isn't too bad.

Monday's WIPs

So it's Monday, the beginning of a brand new week. And I think I've done pretty good with staying on top of my projects this week. Although I did notice something different...I have different projects for different times of the day/week. To show progress I'm going to break it up into knitting times.

Weekdays

I finished the first sock (SITM Baudelaire socks) last week and cast on for the second one over the weekend. This seems to be my go to knitting during the day. It is easy to pick up and knit a round here or there, and it fits in my purse. I am very pleased with how these are turning out. For the pattern looking so complicated it is very easy to memorize, and knits up fairly quickly.

Weeknights

This is something that I hadn't planned on starting yet, but I needed a break from all the lace and socks. I present to you, pieces of the Unicorn. This is from the book Dream Toys by Claire Garland. I think I cast this on last Tuesday night and I finished knitting all the pieces last night, so all that's left is sewing it together and stuffing it. A very easy and cute knit, and I have something else from my Christmas list almost finished. *A note about the pattern: Since I substituted Cashsoft DK for Plymouth Dreambaby, I'm not sure how the yardage would normally work out. But using Dreambaby I only used 1 of the 4 balls needed. (Mine is still in a hundred pieces, so this is a pic from the book)

Weekends

This would be the time that I work on whatever lace project I am currently working on. At the moment that would be Hanami. I have finished the first 4 of the 7 repeats, so I'm staying on track with the KAL, and once you get into the basket weave groove they seem to go pretty quickly. I am very loving this stole, it's so beautiful and soft. Yummy!!(I would post a pic, but it looks the same as last week just alittle longer.)

That's it for my current WIPs, I'm very happy with the progress that I've made in the past week. Hopefully this week will be just as productive. On a final note...I picked up this book over the weekend. And so to bed by Lucinda Guy, this book has some of the cutest patterns for children. Have you seen Otto the Owl or Lula or the little Ballerina Bunny. I can't wait to make up some of these.

Long Weekend

Well I've had a fairly productive weekend, spent working on a couple of projects. I cast on the Hanami stole and finished the first weeks set rows. It goes pretty quickly once you get the hang of the basket weave repeats. I decided to use Cashwool, which I discovered is alot thinner then the other lace weight yarns that I have used. Took some getting used to at first, felt like it was going to break all the time. But it's all good now.

Here is a picture of one of the other projects(not knitting related) that I worked on. I made myself some pretty stitch markers. I really enjoy making these, and they look so pretty laying against my knitting.

I also worked some more on MS3. Finished all of clue 6 and about half of clue 7. Hopefully I'll have it done sometime in the near future. Again no photos, not very photogenic at this point.

If at first you don't succeed...

Frog, frog again. That right there has been the story of the past week or so in my knitting life. The red yarn that I dyed up for my SITM socks, has been knitted and frogged about 5 times in the past week. For some reason red seems to be a hard color to find a pattern for. Every time I thought that I found the perfect pattern, I would get ready to start the heel and the pattern wouldn't be showing up. So I am now on my 6th try and these ones are going pretty good. I'm doing Baudelaire by Cookie A, I love knitting this pattern. It is complicated enough to keep it interesting, but yet with it being a 8 row repeat, it's pretty easy to memorize. Here's a pic of my progress as of last night, although I am a little further along now, just finished turning the heel. This pic makes the yarn look a little on the orange side, but I assure you it is red.

And then there shall be more frogging...MS3. Since Melanie posted the theme, I have had a love hate relationship with this project. Hence the reason that I haven't finished it yet. Well that and I made a mistake at the beginning of Clue 6 and didn't realise this until I had finished the clue. So I had to frog the whole clue to fix it, and because of this I lost my motivation to finish it. And then, last night I was laying in bed trying to get to sleep, and my brain just wouldn't stop running through all my WIPs. So I decided to get up, since I wasn't going to be able to sleep, and see if I could work on some of them. Out came MS3, I frogged, fixed the stupid mistake that I made, and am almost done Clue 6, again. I am thinking that I should be able to finish it this weekend and get it blocked out. Here's hoping.

Hanami KAL starts tomorrow, and I am very excited about this. Partly because the pattern is so beautiful, but mostly because it's for me. I ordered my yarn on Tuesday and it got here today. Can you guess where I ordered from? That's right the Loopy Ewe. Sherri outdoes herself with customer service. Yummy yarn, good prices, and quick ass service. It really doesn't get any better then that. Oh wait it does, she puts little goodies in with your order. How sweet is that. Hand Dyed Yarn

What a frustrating weekend of knitting! Everything that I started working on just wouldn't work out. I broke one of my US1 while trying on my mom's sock to see how it was fitting. Which stinks because I need all 5 of the needles to finish my other Hogwarts socks. So that project is on hold. I made it to the heel on my moms sock, and I'm not sure if I like how its turning out, so back in the basket it goes so that I can think about it. And I had to frog back to the beginning of clue 6 for MS3, and no matter how many times I try to fix that, it just keeps on messing up. Ugh!

Happier news...I finished my dyeing for the Hand Dyed Yarn Swap. So that package went in the mail on Friday, should be there today or tomorrow. I'll post pics as soon as she gets it. Here is a pic of some extra yarn I dyed for myself. It's called "Circus", it's much more colorful in person. And one that I dyed for my SITM socks. Called "Shades of Red", it is slightly variegated shades of red.

I also cast on my SITM socks last night, and they are coming along quite nicely. I decided to use the "Uptown Boot Socks" from Favorite Socks with my own hand dyed yarn. The pattern looks classic and is easy to memorize. I'm loving it. This pic is not capturing the cable pattern or the color very well, but in person it looks pretty good.

End of the Wave

I have finished the Print O' Wave Stole! I cast off yesterday morning and had it blocking for the rest of the day. I love how it turned out, and am glad to have a project off the needles and in the finished pile.

Modifications: I followed the pattern, but if I do it again I'm going to knit the center panel all in one piece. I like the idea of the mirrored panels, but I don't like the seam that you get in the center where you join the 2 panels.

I'm a little further along now, just about to do the heel. This yarn (Plymouth Sockotta #5612) is all the fun of color work with none of the work. I think I might pick up another ball in this same color for myself. I'm also trying to find color #605, unfortunately my LYS doesn't carry this color, maybe I can find it online.

Modifications:This was my first attempt at toe-up socks, and while I like the toe and being able to have Angelina try them on while I knit, I don't like the heel. I tried the suggested short-row heel, and ended up with a lot of holes on my short row heel. So I switched to the heel from here, and ended up with less holes. Still not impressed with it though. I think if I could figure out how to change the heel to what I normally do I would like this way of doing socks.

I forgot to post the theme of MS3, but as everyone probably knows by now that the theme is Swan Lake. I spent some time debating about how I wanted to finish the stole, and in the end went with the original design. Melanie designed this asymmetrical, with a pointed pendant on one end and a wing on the other. She did give directions on how to finish the stole symmetrical, but it was designed with a wing. So I waited to see how the wing was turning out on others stoles and decided that it looked beautiful. So I have finished Clue 5 & 6, with only one week to go I can't wait to see this pattern blocked. My grandmother is going to love this.

I also started my Hogwarts sock. This turned out to be more difficult then I had first thought. I had picked out what I had hoped would be the perfect pattern, Fred and George Socks. But after a few inches of denial, I finally admitted that I could hear bees in the background. Even though I chose a charcoal instead of black, they were still looking like bumblebees. Oh well, back to the pattern searching, and I found the new pattern that looks nothing like bees. I cast on and finished the first sock this weekend, I think that the colors with the pattern look quite nice.

Well, I'm off to do some dying for my Hand Dyed Yarn Swap and for SITM, hoping to have this done in the next few days. After that I have big plans to finish the Print O' Wave Stole(the rest of the yarn came in the other day), and get it pinned out on the blocking board.

My yummy yarn dropped in on Saturday. I ordered it from The Loopy Ewe on Wednesday and it got here just a few days later. It must have been delivered by owl, there's no way muggle mail would have gotten it here that fast. It's Louet Gems Fingering in Goldilocks and Charcoal, it is so soft and squishy I can't wait to get started on the socks. I also managed to find some beautiful beads for my stitch markers, this picture doesn't do them justice.

I know that's its been a whole week without a post, but I have been crazy busy this past week. My mom is here for a visit which is taking up most of my time. We've been doing alot of sight seeing and visiting, it has been alot of fun. We went and took the 17 Mile Drive yesterday. What a beautiful drive that was. And tomorrow we have plans to visit the Aquarium and walk around Cannery Row, should be fun.

On the knitting front, I've been doing quite a bit, but I don't have any pictures taken yet. So hopefully I'll get those done in the next couple of days. That's it for today, I'm going to go back to the MS3 and try to decide what I want to do with that.(I'll explain later)

It's official. I ran out of yarn for the Print O' Wave Stole last night. I finally convinced myself to pick it up and finish knitting, maybe it was just my imagination that I was going to run out of yarn. But I was right, with only 10 1/2 repeats left to go, I ran out of yarn. So that has gone back into the WIP box until I get more of the yarn. I am so disappointed! I am so close to finishing it and now I'll have to wait.

I cast on the Anemoi Mittens last night with a tubular cast-on. This is a beautiful cast-on, the edge is perfectly finished, I was in awe. Problem: I was thinking that it looked a little tight. But I figured since I did a gauge check before hand maybe it just looked tight. So on I went, finished the ribbing and started the body pattern. I am amazed at how easy and fast this goes. The pattern looks so intricate that I thought it would be slow going. So now I have the ribbing finished and some of the body and it still is looking tight. I tried it on. Mind you these are a gift for someone whose hands are smaller then mine, but I almost broke all 4 of my needles and got a wool burn on my hand getting this on. I'm not sure if you can tell how tight this is, but I couldn't move my wrist and it was starting to cut off my circulation. So I have ripped this out and am trying to decide what to do. I thought about using larger needles, but I had already used US1 instead of the recommended US0 for the ribbing. What to do, what to do.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Rachel! Rachel is my Hand Dyed Yarn swap pal, who noticed that I have been waiting (patiently) for my Ravelry invite, and gave me her extra one. Rachel that is the sweetest thing that someone has done for me in quite a while. THANK YOU:) And just for those who are wondering Ravelry is awesome. I haven't had much time to play around with it yet, but I'm already hooked. For those who already have their invites my username is peaceangel.

On to finished objects, I have now finished my third pair of socks.(I think these classify as socks) The Twinkletoes are finished and have been added to Angelina's dress up box. Although these knit up pretty quick, I didn't really enjoy doing them as much as I thought I would.

So because of this, its been sitting in my basket. For some reason my mind thinks that if it sits there I won't run out of yarn. Which is true, but I'm also not going to get it done. Hopefully I can talk myself into working on it tonight.

Finally...

Finally I have had a productive knitting weekend, and it's not over yet. I was pretty good this weekend with only casting on one new project, everything else that I worked on was stuff that I already had going. I worked on MS3 Clue 4, and since this week has a very large clue, I decided to work on half of it this weekend and leave the other half for next weekend.This is a close up of the first part of clue 4. It is all done in these cute little flowers.(At least that's what they look like to me)

I have also been working on the Print O' Wave Stole. I am now down to 26 repeats left on the edge border, but the night is still young. I'm hoping to knock that down to 15 by the end of tonight.

I finally got my shipment from Knit Picks with the yarn for Angelina's Double Scoop Sweater and her poncho.

And my first order from thankewe arrived on Friday. The reddish yarn on the bottom left is what I had ordered for my Sock it to Me socks. But when it got here, it was a little brighter then what I was expecting, so back to finding a yarn again.

I was so excited about this yarn that I cast on and finished a sock that turned out better then I could have hoped. The color doesn't show that great in this picture, but it's called "Kiwi Lemonade" and that is exactly what it looks like. I love this pattern!! It's from Interweave Spring 2007 "Seduction". The pattern is so easy, it looks cute and it fits great. This is the pattern that I'm planning on using for my Sock it to Me socks.

Some random things from my weekend:

Our cat wants to get the hamster SO bad. She tries to do this every time we take the hamster out to play. And no she doesn't get close enough to hurt him.

I made blueberry peach cobbler this weekend. It was so good.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Toes

As you can see I have cast on and finished one Twinkletoes from Knitty using Rowan Calmer. These were supposed to be a Christmas present for Angelina, but when she saw me knitting them there was no waiting. This is why they don't fit as snug as they are supposed to. After I got past the initial frustrations of doing wrap and turn rows they knit up quite quickly. I'm not sure why, but I just couldn't wrap my head around what I was supposed to be picking up when I came back by the stitches that were wrapped. I did eventually figure it out after frogging 3 or 4 times, and then sleeping on it. I have used a short row method before, but it was a yarn over method. I'm thinking the next pair will use this method, but I did learn something new.

Print O' Wave update: I have finished 40 of my edge border repeats with only 40 more to go. YEAH!!!

I have joined yet another Sock Swap! This one would be the Hogwarts Sock Swap and I have been sorted into the Ravenclaw House. I am excited to finally be part of all the Harry Potter action that has been going on. Now I just need to wait for my pal and then I can go shopping. By the way, I did just finish the first book so I am a little behind on what all is going on with HP, but I'm working on catching up.

Weekend Knitting

Well I did end up taking a break from the Print O' Wave Stole, but I didn't start the Anemoi Mittens. I was going to and then I got everything out, started reading the pattern and realized that I didn't have the right size needles. So back in the basket those went. So instead of the mittens, I did some more work on the Cotton Ease Cardigan. I finished the back of the sweater and cast on for the left front. Even though this is a really easy knit, it seems to be going pretty slow.

I also finished clue 3 for MS3. Had a small fright on the 3rd row when I was short a stitch, and couldn't figure out where I had lost it. Thank God I had put lifelines in at the end of each clue.

Monotonous Knitting

I am taking a much needed break from knitting the edging border on the Print O' Wave Stole. It's going pretty quickly, but it's boring. I am doing a 16-row repeat 80 times. If thats not monotonous I don't know what is. I have a couple of pics of the border that I took while taking my break.

The only change that I have made to the pattern (other then adding the decrease to fix the edging) is adding beads to the border. I am addicted to beading, since the MS3 calls for it, so I decided to try it on this stole also. And I think that it looks pretty good.

I got a small order from Knit Picks yesterday. It had the yarn I ordered for the Anemoi Mittens that are on my Christmas KAL.

This would be Knit Picks Palette in Salsa Heather and Cream. I think that I'm going to download the pattern this afternoon so that I can have something different to work on. We'll see, I might get a burst of energy for the stole.

I am hoping that the other order that I placed to Knit Picks will get here soon. It has the yarn needed for the Knitty KAL and a poncho for Angelina. Not that I really need any more projects to work on. I just like knowing that I have everything I need if I decide to work on them.

I changed the pattern and yarn for the Sock it to Me pals socks. I was going to do the Bayerische Socks in Lang, but then decided that I may have bitten off more then I can knit. So I went pattern hunting again, and came up with this instead. Seduction Socks from Interweave Knits Spring 2007 issue. After finding my new pattern, I went on Etsy to find some beautiful hand dyed yarn. And low and behold I found thank ewe. They sell hand dyed superwash merino and 100% merino yarn in all weights for very reasonable prices. So to make sure that I didn't change my mind again, I went ahead and order 1 skein for my pals socks and 2 for me. I'll post pictures as soon as my yummy yarn gets here.

Knitting Frustrations

Well I finished clue 2 for the MS3 this past weekend. It went pretty quickly, and turned out great. Thankfully this project is going smoothly so far.

Speaking of projects going smoothly... my Print O' the Wave Stole was not going smoothly last night. I finished the 2 middle sections and grafted them together. Instead of using a tapestry needle I tried knitting them together as taught in the Tech Knitting blog. This is so much easier, plus I don't have to dig out my needle. So the pieces are grafted together, then I start the much hated chore of picking up 640 stitches from around the four corners. Ugh! The inner border went smoothly enough only took me a couple of hours. Now comes the not so smooth part. The edging border. I thought I was going crazy, because no matter how many times I frogged and recounted I was always one stitch too many when I started the decreases. So I went to bed, had horrible dreams about the freaking border, then woke up and decided to check to see if anyone else had the same problem. Low and behold, there is a mistake in the pattern. I was so relieved to hear this. So I followed with what others had done, and added a decrease to the outer edge. Problem solved. Now, after all this I have 4 repeats done and 76 more to go, then I will have my first Christmas KAL project done. I am almost done!

Back from Vacation

How exciting to be back at home. I love going home to visit all our family, but there's just something about coming back home that I love. Our trip to and from Georgia was good, long, but good. We had an awesome time visiting all my husbands family and some of our old friends. The trip to Busch Gardens was a little disappointing. The first day that we went, we weren't there but 3 hours and it just started down pouring. So the park gave us rain check tickets, and we called it a day. We went back the next day, and after about 2 hours, again with the rain. So that was it for Busch Gardens. We were all so tired and hot that we just drove back to Thomasville to relax.

My husband celebrated his birthday right before we left for our trip, so while we were there he got his first tattoo for his present. Here it is:

He just got it 3 days ago, so it still has some healing time left. But I think it looks awesome.

I started a new project while we were away. I needed something that was really easy and didn't have a pattern to follow, so that I could knit while the family talked at night. So I found some of Lion Brands new yarn "Cotton Ease" on sale and started a cardigan for Angelina for Christmas.(This will be added to the Christmas KAL) I'm using Cotton Ease in Berry, Lime and Lake and the pattern can be found here. I think that this will look really cute on Angelina, and the yarn is so soft that I know she will wear it.

MS3... I finished the first clue last Wednesday, but forgot to take a picture. So here's a picture of clue 1 and what I have done so far of clue 2. The thin white line that is running across the stole is my lifeline and where clue 1 finished. I love how this is turning out! You can't tell from the picture, but the purple beads that I'm using look awesome with the sage yarn. This will be perfect for my grandmothers Christmas present.

When I got home last night, I was very happy to find that the yarn that ordered off ebay had arrived. I ordered 3 balls of Rowan Cashsoft DK and 2 balls of Rowan Calmer. My plan is to use these to make caps for the Caps for a Cure group that I joined a while ago. I had two patterns in mind when I ordered this yarn. For the Cashsoft DK this pattern and with the Calmer this pattern. Hopefully I can get something that I'm working on finished so that I can get these on my needles.

I also had a package from Crafters Choice with my introductory books. These are the first knitting books that I have bought. I am really excited about the Debbie Bliss Family Knits book. It has a couple of patterns that I would like to try for myself and there's a Fair Isle Cardigan pattern for Angelina that I am dying to try. I will refrain until I have most of my other projects done. (most)

Hmmm, let's see... the Sock it to Me swap. We got our secret pals this past week, I am so excited to get started on this. I think that I'm going to use Eunny Jang's Bayerische Sock for my pattern and Lang Jawoll in color 0060 (red). I know that the pattern is really complicated, but I like a challenge and the socks are so awesome. I will probably order the yarn this weekend so that I can get started on those, since the deadline is earlier then Christmas. This is so much fun :)

Knit Alongs...

One day left until the MS3 begins. This is very exciting because my yarn got here yesterday, which in my opinion is pretty fast service. I placed my order on Sunday and it got here on Wednesday. Pretty nice. Included with my order was a nice color card for the Jaggurspun Zephyr. I know the lighting is a little off, but the color that I ordered is Sage, and it is gorgeous.

So I got straight to work on my swatches. I tried a size 4 first, just because it seems that's what just about everyone else was doing. But after blocking it I wasn't sure if I like how big the holes were. So I started over using size 3's. And after blocking that swatch out, I'm not sure if I see much of a difference. The left swatch is on the size 4's and the right on the size 3's. Please let me know which you think is the better gauge.

So after all that, I made a trip to the LBS this morning and picked out the final item for the stole. The beads. I was a little disappointed, they had tons of size 11/0 in every single color. But when I finally made my way over to the size 8/0, the color selection was very limited. So with the help of my 4 year old, we decided on rainbow light purple to go with the sage. I know it sounds kind of off, but the slight contrast actually looks really nice together. Thank you Angelina.

On to other things. I also joined the Sock it to Me sock swap, which should be a lot of fun. Sign ups end on Saturday so if anyone is interested just click on the link on the side of my page. And since I am presently addicted to KAL, I joined the Christmas KAL. This was a practical choice that should also be fun. I had just started my Christmas knitting list, so this came at the right time. There will be prizes for who finishes the most from their list the quickest. Fun, fun, fun!

With getting ready to leave for vacation on Saturday and putting together all my MS3 supplies, I have not had much time for actual knitting. Although I have sneaked of few moments at night for working on the Print O' Wave Stole. The second half is coming along pretty well, I only have 9 more repeats to go. Hopefully I'll have that done and some of the border by the time I get back from Georgia.

I'll try and post a progress report while we're gone, but there are no guarantees. So if nothings gets posted next week. I will see you all on the 8th of July.

Weekend Knitting

4 days and counting till the first clue to the Mystery Stole. I changed my mind on the yarn, I went ahead and ordered Zephyr in Sage from http://www.sarahsyarns.com/. I'm hoping that it will get here in time for me to do a swatch before Friday. My fingers are crossed. My other hope is that the pattern will be appropriate for a Christmas gift for my grandmother. I had started a Lace Leaf Shawl in Louet Milan in Lichen. I'm not sure if its the yarn I don't like or if I've done too much frogging and so I don't like the pattern anymore. Either way, I'm thinking of ripping out and starting over, so hopefully the MS3 will work out.

I have been knitting like crazy this weekend. I finished the first half of the center of the Print O' Wave Stole. No mistakes!!! I have been so careful with watching the pattern repeats that I can proudly say that this piece is perfect.

I also cast on the second half and have finished one repeat so far this morning. If I can keep this half as perfect as the last, I will be very happy. I can't wait to have this finished, so I can block this baby out.

Other news...We are getting ready to go back to Georgia for the 4th of July week, to visit my husbands parents. We are very excited about this. He hasn't seen his parents since last June, so it should be tons of fun. Plus lots of travel time=lots of knitting time. :)

Print O' Wave Stole

So I finally took a picture of the stole. I know the lighting is horrible, but at least its an idea of what it looks like. The yarn is so soft and slightly heathered, so it gives it some extra dimension.(Knit Picks-Shadow in Vineyard)

I am done six of the seventeen repeats for this side of the stole, and am quite pleased with how its turning out so far. The pattern is written so that the center panel is worked in two pieces and then grafted together in the center. Giving you mirrored waves. Then a small border is worked around the entire piece, with a large border framing that. Thank you Eunny Jang, for this beautiful pattern. I am very excited to see how this is going to turn out. And other then some missing stitch problems at the beginning, everything is going pretty smoothly.(Knock on wood)

I'm thinking that I'm going to use Ornaghi Filati Merino Oro in either yellow or seafoam. But we'll see when I get to the LYS, I always seem to change my mind once I get there.

So I have officially finished two pairs of socks. The first pair, I am horrified with. I ended up with a lot of ladders, they are way too loose and one sock is bigger then the other one. My second pair turned out much better. They are ankle socks ( which is much more practical for me), and I tried a short row heel. I love this method for forming the heel and toe. It seems to fit so much better and is much more comfortable.

After my two attempts at socks, I think my sock curiosity is finally filled. So I'm going to move on to bigger and better things. Shawls...

I've been reading Eunny Jang's blog, and I absolutely love her patterns. I started working on the "Print O' The Wave Stole" last night. I don't have much done, but I am loving how its looking. I'll post a picture as soon as I pull the camera out.
